New technology and techniques, and one-on-one guidance will provide gastroenterologists the unique opportunity to gather the most up-to-date “tricks of the trade” in two ASGE Hands-On Workshops, GI Emergencies: Sutures, Closures and Hemostasis and Lumenal Stents.

Standard and novel hemostasis techniques and defect-closure devices will be explained and demonstrated during GI Emergencies, led by Juergen H. Hochberger, MD, PhD, professor of medicine at St. Bernward Academic Teaching Hospital, Hildesheim, Germany. Demonstrations and proper application of the devices will give participants experience and an understanding of the perspectives and limitations of the current systems, he said.

Conference to examine management
options for necrotizing pancreatitis

An SSAT State-of-the-Art Conference May 3 will examine changes in the management of necrotizing pancreatitis that focus much more on the use of minimally invasive techniques.

Necrotizing Pancreatitis: Novel Minimally Invasive Strategies, presented jointly with AGA and ASGE, will have four speakers who will address the role of open and laparoscopic surgery, and endoscopic or percutaneous approaches in the treatment of necrotizing pancreatitis, said session moderator C. Max Schmidt, MD, PhD, MBA.
